Creating a Fellowship

Unlike some other MMOs, there is no auto join for an instance. If there’s a paticular dungon you want to run you’re going to have to talk to people. There are several options open for you. You can ask within your kinship, LFF channel, or as found on most servers the private GLFF channel.

Instance vs Raid vs Skirmish

While it may seem at first that these three items are all the same thing, there are differences that may cause you and others confusion simply because of terminology.

Instance: Most people will use this term when referring to any of the 3 or 6 man dungons throughout Middle Earth. The majority of the dungons in LoTRO will require 6 people to complete the objectives with only about 9 allowing 3 people. When looking at the Instance Join pannel, the size will be listed as either Fellowship or Small Fellowship.

Raid: In order to be called a ‘Raid’ you must have a fellowship of more that 6 people. In the Entenmoors (LoTRO PvP zone) you’ll often see raids of varrious sizes. In a raid instance, however, it will either be 12 or 24.

Skirmish: These are specialised instances that can be run with 1, 2, 3, 6 or 12 people. There are no special drops here. For completing objectives and killing certian mobs you will receive Skirmish Marks that can be spent on items ranging from crafting materials to legendary weapons.
